Informed consent in counselling is the process of sharing information with a client for them to be able to make informed decisions with regards to their participation in the proposed treatment.

Informed consent should be given willingly by the client based on being adequately informed on the treatment or therapy they are about to participate in.

All things discussed during sessions with your therapist are confidential but in some cases of emergency, your things may be discussed like: (a.) Child, elder or dependent abuse; (b.) expressed threats of violence towards an ascertainable victim; (c.) signs of suicidal attempts; (d.) to facilitate clients care and healing process; (e) legal and administrative institutions request info. Other than these situations, all information of clients remain strictly confidential

Best wishes
